The first mention of the "Przymiłowice castle" dates back to 1306. For this reason, in 2006, the 700th anniversary of the Olsztyn Castle was celebrated. It was built on the site of an early medieval stronghold, expanded in the years 1349-59 on the initiative of Casimir the Great, to defend the Silesian-Lesser Poland borderland. From 1370, the castle passed into the hands of Władysław Jagiełło. According to tradition, during his reign, the voivode of Poznań, Maciek Borkowic, was imprisoned in the castle, who died there condemned to starvation for organizing a conspiracy against the king. According to the tales, the voivode's spirit, moaning and clinking shackles are to frighten around the castle to this day. In the 15th century, the castle played a significant role in repelling attacks by Silesian princes. At that time it was expanded, then rebuilt several times due to the crumbling of the walls due to the sliding of rocks. In 1587, the castle was destroyed by the army of Maksymilian Habsburg - a contender for the Polish crown, although he failed to capture the stronghold. In 1656, during the Flood, the Swedes ruined the castle and burned the city. It was the beginning of his fall. In the 1920s, large fragments of the lower parts of the castle were demolished. A characteristic element of the ruins is a Gothic tower (donjon) from the second half of the 13th century with a height of 35 m, round at the bottom, octagonal at the top, made of stone, and in the 15th built of brick. She served as a prison. The second castle was in the south-west part, with a square observation tower called Village leaders. The whole castle was surrounded by a defensive wall. The walls of the residential part, cylindrical (stolp) and square (Starościańska) towers, fragments of walls of outbuildings, partly also cellars and forge foundations discovered during archaeological research have remained from the castle. In the years 1992–1993 and 1995–1998 an international pyrotechnic and laser show took place here. After a fragment of the castle wall collapsed, the conservator of monuments banned this type of event. The castle ruins are open to the public. The Olsztyn stronghold is an example of a Gothic castle structure (upland type), its structure includes limestone monadnocks and karst caves, which allows it to be included in the group of cave castles.
