In 10 minutes from the market in Wierzchów we will reach one of the longest and largest caves in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The total length of corridors is about 1000 m, of which about 700 m is open to visitors. It is an example of underground karst formations. The temperature in the cave was 7.8 C regardless of the season. The first mention dates from 1856. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries archeological research was conducted there. In the nineteenth century, she was visited with a guide by the candlelight, torches and Chinese lanterns. At the beginning of the 20th century, the cave was visited by tourists who visited it at their own risk. Currently, the tour takes place only under the guidance of a guide. It has three large entrance openings. The first hole was blocked in 1997 by a massive rock cover. The third is too high. The second one is the beginning of the tourist route. We started our tour from the Isthmus of Long. It is the longest of the cave corridors and measures 80 m in length. Another place is Cave Bears, where large amounts of cave bear bones were found. In the further part we enter the room called Hotelik. Cave explorers spent the night there. It is decorated with a wonderful stalactite garment. From it, we go up the stairs to the Ballroom (Throne Hall). It is the largest of the cave chambers in the whole of Jura. We saw paleontological expositions in it: fossils such as ammonite (extinct predatory cephalopod that inhabited the warm waters of the Jurassic Sea), bones of animals living in the Pleistocene: mammoth, bear, rhinoceros and deer. On the right side of the room is Kostnica, in which the remains of many animals were found. We come back a little different way and find ourselves at the necrotic bowl. We reach the Hall of the Primitive Man, where there is a reconstruction of a human camp from the Neolithic age, as well as neolithic vessels. On our journey we were accompanied by a small horseshoe (one of the smallest bats in Poland) and a cave mite (spider). From 1966, the cave was recognized as a natural monument and protected by law.
