The ruins of the Tenczyn castle in Rudno, also often called the ruins in Tenczyn. It is one of the more majestic defensive structures located in Lesser Poland. The beautiful surroundings in which the ruins are and the interesting history of the castle make the place very popular. The castle is located in the village of Rudno, 24 km from Kraków and 5 km from Krzeszowice. It is located on the highest hill of Tenczyński's Hump, so-called Castle Hill, at an altitude of 411 m a.s.l. The name of the object comes from the Tęczyński family. However, one can often find the theory that it comes from the nearby village of Tenczynek, which in the old days was called Tęczyn Mały. The castle with wooden structure was probably built around 1319. It was erected by the Castellan of Kraków Nawój from Morawica, thanks to which the largest tower in the castle is called today the "Nawojowa Tower". The brick castle was built by Nawoj's son, Jędrzej, the voivode of Kraków. He also first adopted the surname Tęczyński. Jędrzej's son, Jaśko, contributed to the expansion of the castle and also founded a chapel there. In the 16th century, the castle walls hosted outstanding Poles such as Mikołaj Rej and Jan Kochanowski. In the 16th century, there were a farm, a bathhouse, a brewery with a malt house, and a washer house. Under the castle, however, stretched the gardens and vineyards.
