The ruins of the castle of Krakow bishops, built in the system of the Eagles' Nests, in the village of Babice in the Lesser Poland voivodeship, in the poviat of Chrzanów. Lipowiec is a typical Gothic highland defensive castle. It is built primarily of stone, and bricks were used mainly for vaults. In the past, the facades of the upper castle were covered with plaster, which has been preserved in trace amounts. Frames of windows and doors, as well as other elements of interior decoration, have not survived to our times, which is the result of fires and devastation for years of abandonment. The castle complex consists of: - a four-wing upper castle with an inner courtyard, - foregate - a rather rare architectural solution in medieval defensive construction, where it consisted of: a moat with a bridge over it to a free-standing gate, which in turn was connected to the main gate of the upper castle with two parallel walls (the so-called neck) - the foregate was liquidated in the 17th century, we know about it thanks to archaeological research, on which there were wooden outbuildings, such as stables, coach houses, servants' houses, etc .; the outer bailey was located much lower than the main body of the castle. The most impressive and interesting part of the entire castle is a four-story tower on a circular plan, about 30 m high, which is the oldest part of the building, dating from the second half of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century. In the first period of the history of Lipowiec it was a typical stolp, i.e. a free-standing defensive element, located near the gate, intended to strengthen its defense, as well as being the last point of resistance during the capture of the fortress.
