The Ogrodzieniec Castle is located on the Janowski Mountain, i.e. the highest hill of the Jura (515 m a.s.l.). It was built of hard limestone and dolomite, which is why it has survived so long in excellent condition. This is the most interesting and intriguing Eagle Nest among all the castles located in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. When was the castle created? The first mention of the stronghold in that place dates back to the 12th century, but it had only a few wooden huts. However, in 1241 the stronghold was looted and burned by Tatars, which is why the Włodków managers of the castle decided to build a stone castle. In the years 1532 - 1547 the castle was developed by a certain Seweryn Bonar, thanks to which the castle became an excellent defensive fortress. Unfortunately, after the Swedes invaded twice, the castle fell into ruin because its last owners moved out in 1810. Since then, it has fallen into increasing ruin and served as building material for nearby peasants. The current appearance of the castle is due to intensive archaeological work carried out in the 1950s and 1960s. The castle in April can be visited every day from 9 to 18. In the season (May-August) from 9 to 20, in September to 19, in October to 18, and in November until 15. From December to March the castle is closed. The price for a normal ticket to visit the castle is PLN 9. For an additional visit to the stronghold on Mount Birów you have to pay 5 PLN. We encourage you to buy a gold ticket that allows visiting the castle, castle and miniature park. In addition, from May to September, every Sunday and public holidays, the castle hosts representatives of the Knights' Brotherhood of the Ogrodzieniec Region, who make visiting with their fight shows more enjoyable.
